Lead PreK Teacher

Location: Petersburg, VA
Position Type: Full-Time | Monday – Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (1-hour break)
Compensation: $13–$15 per hour (based on experience)

๐ Key Responsibilities:
๐งธ Classroom Management:
Establish a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Implement consistent routines and effective behavior management strategies.
๐ Curriculum & Instruction:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based lesson plans aligned with state standards and tailored to the unique needs of each child.
Create engaging learning activities that foster curiosity and growth.
๐ Assessment & Communication:
Observe, document, and assess children's progress regularly.
Maintain accurate student records and provide ongoing feedback to families through conferences and daily communication.
๐ค Collaboration:
Partner with colleagues, administration, and families to ensure holistic support for each child.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
๐งผ Classroom Environment:
Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom filled with age-appropriate materials.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and licensing standards.
๐ง Behavioral Support:
Promote positive social-emotional development, problem-solving skills, and emotional regulation.
Address behavioral challenges in a calm, consistent, and respectful manner.
๐ฑ Professional Conduct:
Model professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions.
Mentor assistant teachers and floaters, supporting a team-oriented classroom environment.
Stay current with early childhood best practices and compliance standards.
Requirements
โ Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in an early childhood education setting (required)
Knowledge of Virginia state licensing and curriculum standards
Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
CDA or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred (not required)
Passion for literacy, learning, and empowering young children
